To practically achieve this with your team, share how the company is doing financially and how your team’s cost-saving decisions benefit them. Then practice what you preach. It will breed resentment when you ask them to save money, but they don’t see you do the same. I had a boss who would commute to work on a helicopter and play $225k at a time blackjack on the firm trip to Vegas. It made it hard for all of us to take him seriously when he told us not to “let the ants carry us away” when it came to our expenses. He was right about managing money.
